This season's game released in January, which featured a challenge where "teams will use their STEM and collaboration skills to explore life beneath the surface of the ocean,"(FIRST).
For this year, we are excited to shift our club from FTC (FIRST Tech Challenge) over to FRC (FIRST Robotics Competition).
The robots within FRC are much larger and more complex. FRC is exclusive to grades 9 - 12 and requires more time, effort, and collaboration.
Like FTC, FRC matches include different sections:
Starting with an autonomous period where robots can only be moved by pre-programmed instructions
Followed by a driver-controlled period where teams showcase their driving skills.
However, FRC isn’t just about the robots or winning the match. There are many opportunities to excel in the competition beyond the field, with awards in categories such as engineering, outreach, innovation, and more.
This game is called "ReefScape".
We have finished our season competing in FTC (FIRST Tech Challenge), and the year's competition, CenterStage.
FTC competitions are built around earning points in accordance with the season's rules. Each round consists of 2 alliances, and each alliance has 2 teams. The teams can earn points during a period which is entirely pre-programmed, followed by a driver-controlled period.
If driving isn't your thing, know that earning the most points isn't the only way to succeed - there are awards for many categories, such as creativity, portfolios, outreach, artificial intelligence, and many more.
The season's game is called "Centerstage". A game mainly focused on precision and accuracy. It combines multiple elements of past events into one.
