Three scientists have jointly won the Nobel Prize in Chemistry this year. They are Susumu Kitagawa, Richard Robson and Omar M. Yagi. The Royal Swedish Academy announced their names on Wednesday afternoon Bangladesh time.
The 2025 Nobel laureates in chemistry have created a molecular structure that has large voids through which gases or chemicals can flow, the academy said in a press release.
This structure, known as a metal-organic framework, can be used to harvest water from desert air, absorb carbon dioxide, store toxic gases, or speed up chemical reactions.
Susumu Kitagawa was born in Kyoto, Japan, in 1951. He received his PhD from Kyoto University in 1979. He is currently a professor at Kyoto University.
Richard Robson was born in 1937 in Glasburn, UK. He received his PhD from Oxford University, UK, in 1962. He is now a professor at the University of Melbourne, Australia.
Omar M. Yaghi was born in Amman, Jordan, in 1965. He received his PhD from the University of Illinois in 1990. He is currently a professor at the University of California, USA.
They will equally share the prize of 11 million Swedish kronor.
