Sightings from 2020:

spawners in creek.MOV

On Wednesday, November 4th, Tom Hall, one of our Streamwatchers, was walking the Ian McRae tributary of McLennan Creek and took this video.  Here are his observations:

"Water clarity good. Lots of full colour coho. Counted at least 20+. Stood next to fish surging upstream like they only had one thing on their mind.

"Stood next to one fish that had to be 8 lbs. Did not see any Chum. This stretch had no recorded fish last year. This year they are back! No dam stopping them."

Check out this amazing video from Bob Turner of Chum Salmon live spawning in a creek near Squamish, B.C.  on November 15th.  It is very rare to see this!  Thank you Bob for capturing this for us to see.

Raising and Enhancing Salmonids in the Classroom

PARSES provides opportunities for the local schools and the community to participate in the fertilization and raising of juvenile coho salmon.  Through our "Egg Takes" event in December and the promotion of the "Salmonids in the Classroom" program throughout the year, students are able to learn more about environmental stewardship. Elementary school students in Abbotsford, B.C., participate in the fertilization of approximately 30,000 — 60,000 coho eggs each year. (archive on 2024-12-19)
