AroundMe - Privacy Policy

1. Introduction

This Privacy Policy sets out how we - AroundMe, use and protect your personal data that you provide to us, or that is otherwise obtained or generated by us, in connection with your use of our social media platform. For the purposes of this Privacy Policy, ‘we’, ‘us’ and ‘our’ refers to AroundMe, and ‘you’ refers to you, the user of the Services.

2. What Personal data do we save on our Server?

Basic Account Information & Privacy preferences: You provide your mobile number to create and start using an AroundMe Account. Along with your mobile number, you provide us other details relating to your account including Profile name, Profile picture, Profile Status & Profile Music(Not all info is mandatory for using the account). Your privacy preferences are monitored to provide the freedom for users to custom specify who should see your personal/private data.

Phone Number and Contacts: AroundMe uses phone numbers as unique identifiers so that it is easy for you to handle and retain your social graph. We ask your permission before syncing your contacts.

We store your up-to-date contacts in order to notify you as soon as one of your friends creates an account in AroundMe and to display the names of the users with the name in your phone book. We only need the number and name (first and last) for this to work and store no other data about your contacts. You can use all the functionalities of AroundMe even without permission to read contacts.

Device Location: AroundMe saves your current active location to fetch the feeds in your locality and to facilitate the Nearby feature. You have the complete freedom to opt-out of the Nearby feature at any time and the location details are not shared with any other users apart from this.

Undelivered Messages: AroundMe is a cloud-based social/messenger service. We store messages from your chats on our servers until they get delivered to the receiver's device. For providing reliable service we ought to safely keep the messages/chats in our servers until the device to which it is targeted comes online and is ready to receive messages.

Feeds you post: AroundMe allows the users to post their updates as feeds along with privacy controls to custom choose who should see those posts. We save them in our server for the targeted audiences to access them at any time regardless of the connectivity status of the person who posted the feed. We also save the location at which the feed was posted to facilitate the Nearby feature. Once the feed exceeds the persistence time, they are automatically removed from the servers including all the media associated with it. If your media-enriched posts are shared by someone, then the media data won't be removed until the last feed that references it goes out of the memory. This is to save the data bandwidth of the common users of AroundMe, reduce cloud storage space, and improve the efficiency of the system.
