Caroni
Inspired by the scarlet ibis, this story set in the Caroni Swamp portrays two futures influenced by human practices.
Poaching is a serious threat to the scarlet ibis, a bird that also faces the impacts of climate change and environmental degradation. This piece is in solidarity with protection efforts to heighten awareness about disrupting ecosystems and the risk of depriving future generations.
Caroni placed 3rd in the Shorts category of the 2021 Guará Mapping Festival in Brazil.
Starting Over (Empezar de nuevo)
Starting Over explores refugees and migrants exeriences of working in Trinidad and Tobago (T&T). In particular, it centres UNHCR-registered refugees who were granted the temporary right to work by the T&T government in 2019. The film takes place in Chaguanas, named an “Inclusive City” under the ICCS project, due to the high concentration of refugees and migrants residing there.
Volcano Ready Communities Project
The project seeks to reduce vulnerability to the multi-hazard environment of La Soufrière Volcano through a combination of activities designed to enhance community early warning procedures, increase adaptive capacities, strengthen awareness, and enhance response capacities.
The Challengers
“The Challengers”, a competitive underdog volleyball club, nurtures community for Venezuelan refugees and asylum-seekers in Trinidad and Tobago. In the film, we learn about the team’s fight for inclusion, spending time with some of the volleyball players, on and off the court, as they prepare for an upcoming tournament.
