Two-year colleges gained prominence as a viable alternative to traditional higher education in the late 1960s; the first “MATYC” organization was formed in 1967. As interest grew, similar groups emerged across the country and joined together. The official American Mathematical Association of Two-Year Colleges (AMATYC) was established on April 25, 1974, and its constitution was ratified in October 1975. In 1990, Arkansas mathematics educators joined this growing movement and began a state affiliate. Today, we are actively working to revitalize this important professional network.
