Joaquin Rams: Underdogs No More
Two years ago, the Joaquin ISD Rams were 2-7. Reeling.
Now? They’re headed to Jerry’s World (AT&T Stadium) to play for it all. Not a dream. Not a fluke. Just the raw, undeniable truth that coaching, grit, and small town heart still wins football games.
This run didn’t come easy. It came through adversity.
A starting center goes down mid-season? No panic. Plug in a kid who hadn’t played in four years. Result? He’s dominating in a slot-T offense, bulldozing defenders with the tush push like it’s second nature.
Lost 4,000+ rushing yards from last year’s backs that helped push them into the semi-finals, losing against eventual state champion Ganado?
No problem. Jacob Gatlin, Cooper Bragg, and JuneBug Wilson (yes, that’s his name) clock in like it’s a 9-5 and leave defenses clocked out.
And then there’s Trenton Runnels. QB1. LB1. Heart and soul. Two-way player. Two-way terror. Week in, week out, he’s the embodiment of Joaquin football: tough, relentless, and never asking for permission.
Let’s be honest...outside of Joaquin, nobody gave them a shot.
Underdogs in every game.
Passed over by every outlet, every ranking, every so-called “expert.”
Probably would’ve been picked to lose to a JV squad if the world had its way.
But Joaquin didn’t care.
They beat Centerville, again.
They beat 10-1 Honey Grove, again.
They beat the brakes off of 11-1 Elysian Fields.
They beat district rival San Augustine, who beat them in the regular season.
They beat Refugio, picked to win state by 138% of the world outside of Joaquin. A team that won by at least two scores in every game they've played since 19 and 12 if you ask people from down that way...but really, they won by at least two scores in every game this season until the night they met the Rams.
They beat the odds.
Now they face Hamilton for the state title. And guess what? They’re still underdogs.
Dave Campbell's Texas Football? Doubtful.
MaxPreps? Silent.
Fly-by-night “reporters”? Already writing them off.
But Joaquin doesn’t play for headlines. They play for each other. For the school. For the coaches. For the families. For the fans.
Every cell in every person on that team and in that town is ready to do whatever it takes to bring home the trophy for these kids. And they’ve proved it...time and time again.
So here’s the message: It’s time to give Joaquin the respect they’ve earned. Not because they asked for it. But because they took it.
LET’S GO RAMS. All gas. No brakes. No apologies.
Screw the Spread—Live Music Doesn’t Rig the Game
Tired of watching a rigged sports system week in and week out? Vandy sneaks back in to cover the spread after a parade of blown calls and “oops” coverages that feel more scripted than reality TV. Georgia scores a touchdown so easy it looked like the defense collectively got hit with a stomach bug and your $50 bet flushed itself down the toilet.
Yeah, we see it. We feel it. We’re done with it.
But you know what doesn’t play games with your soul? Live music.
The Band 2nd Childhood doesn’t care about the spread, unless it’s butter on a roll at Texas Music City Grill & Smokehouse-Lindale.
Tiffani Watkins Music ain’t calling a run on 3rd and 7 with Arch Manning at QB1 because Vegas whispered in her ear. The only coverage she’s worried about is how her voice wraps around the room like velvet and fire with that Band of Heathens Hurricane cover.
Betting might’ve wrecked sports, but it hasn’t touched the local stage.
You wanna gamble? Throw a fiver on whether Blade Petty Music grabs his tiddy during a heartfelt rendition of Fortunate Son. Spoiler: it won’t change the ending. Because whether he does or doesn’t, it’s still gonna be kick ass. And if he does it while pointing at you? That’s not a win, it’s a moment. That extra fiver in your pocket? Priceless.
So yeah, let’s revolution this movement. Let’s build a scene that doesn’t bend to bookies or algorithms. Let’s keep it raw, real, and ridiculously good.
Because live music doesn’t cheat. It delivers.

Why We Started This: A Scene Manifesto
After being tagged in a post from someone who’s in the trenches—working the scene, pushing the scene—it hit me again: why did we even start this?
Yeah, it sounded crazy at first. But we went in with the same mentality we still carry today: we’re not chasing approval from big‑box corporate establishments, news agencies, or anyone outside the grind. The only people we answer to are the ones in the scene—the artists, the venues, the fans who keep the lights on and the amps humming.
We knew there were major players in and around the Arklatex. Respect to them—they do good things. But they weren’t pushing the live music scene the way we wanted. So instead of sitting online complaining—“is there anything to do?” or “why don’t you do this?”—we stepped in and did it ourselves.
That’s it. That’s the whole story. We built this platform for the artists of the Arklatex, and that’s how it will stay.
And let me be clear: I’m not a musician. I couldn’t tell you the difference between a guitar and a bass. But I am an artist. I’ve poured my heart and soul into words—two published novels, countless shorts, endless articles. I know what it feels like to put everything into something alone. And I got tired of watching artists do that without support.
So here we are. We love art. We love music. We love live music. We love expression. We love the Arklatex.
To everyone out there pushing, pumping, and keeping this scene alive—thank you. From the bottom of our hearts.
