"Indra, how did this happen?" asked Surya.
Indra and Surya stood facing each other. Surya, the sun god, cloaked in bright armor. Indra, the ruler of the heavens, grasping his weapon of choice; a thunderbolt.
Here stood two fathers that only wanted the best for their sons.
Indra, the father of Arjuna. Surya, the father of Karna. Karna, the boy with a heart of gold. A great warrior and a respected king. Arjuna, just as valiant. A little brother to Karna.
"I know what I did was wrong, but would you have acted any differently? Who are we if we can't protect them?" replied Indra.
Both great heroes in their own right.
Karna gifted to his mother by his father Surya, but soon after, abandoned. Found and raised by a charioteer, Karna lived a life of being overlooked and stepped on. Karna never let his misfortune guide his actions. His generous heart was his greatest weakness.
Arjuna, birthed from the same mother that left Karna behind, was born to be great. Respected by his peers, adored by family. He was always a great warrior, but he was an exceptional archer. He was born to win.
The conflict between Karna and Arjuna had been inevitable since the very beginning. Arjuna had the childhood that Karna secretly coveted. Karna grew up feeling less then. Arjuna carved his way to become a great archer, but his journey may have ruined him. Slowly, it became obvious that the two men would meet with destruction.
"They were meant for more than this," said Surya.
The sun was starting to set. The smell of the battle still lingered in the air.
"Again, I ask. How did this happen?" pleaded Surya.
