Current Research
I am interested in how we form attentional templates to search for items in long-term memory, especially for familiar categories of objects. I currently study in Andrew Hollingworth’s lab at the University of Iowa as a graduate student and previously with Katherine Moore at Arcadia University as an undergraduate student.
How are statistical regularities for familiar object categories acquired and used in search?
Using intertrial effects to investigate the influence of the last within-category exemplar on search compared to the learned categorical statistical regularities
2 experiments show long-term within-category intertrial effects influence search for categories
Do learned category-specific statistical regularities capture attention?
Using contingent capture and RSVP to investigate the specificity of the category representation in the template
How do visual working memory (VWM) and long-term memory (LTM) compete to guide attention?
Using eye-tracking to investigate how the two sources of guidance compete for priority in the same feature dimension
3 experiments investigate a simultaneous versus sequential account of guidance priority between VWM and LTM
Can a predictable sequence of distractor locations be proactively suppressed in an additional singleton paradigm?
