Arieh Schwartz
I am a philosopher specializing in the philosophy of cognitive science and epistemology. I work at the London School of Economics and Political Science, where I collaborate on Alexandria Boyle's UKRI Future Leaders grant project, 'Episodic Memory: Uniquely Human?'.
I am particularly interested in episodic memory. Is it a distinct natural kind? Do any non-human animals have it? How do we test for it? What is its proper function(s)? How does it give rise to knowledge? These are some of the questions animating my work.
Before moving to London, I worked in Israel through the, "Excellence Fellowship for International Postdoctoral Researchers". I was based at Ben-Gurion University, where I collaborated with Nir Fresco. Before Israel, I studied philosophy at UC Davis (Ph.D. under Zoe Drayson), at San Francisco State University (M.A.), and at McGill University (B.A.). I grew up in San Anselmo, California.
