Arieh Schwartz

I am a philosopher specializing in the philosophy of cognitive science and epistemology. I work at the London School of Economics and Political Science, where I collaborate on Alexandria Boyle's UKRI Future Leaders grant project, 'Episodic Memory: Uniquely Human?'.

I am particularly interested in episodic memory, and the role it plays in providing knowledge. Understanding this role is complicated by empirical research that suggests that episodic memories are often inaccurate. Recently, I have been interested in whether a distorted episodic memories can, nevertheless, amount to knowledge.

Before moving to London, I worked in Israel through the, "Excellence Fellowship for International Postdoctoral Researchers". I was based at Ben-Gurion University of the Negev, where I collaborated with Nir Fresco. Before Israel, I studied philosophy at UC Davis (Ph.D. under Zoe Drayson), at San Francisco State University (M.A.), and at McGill University (B.A.). I grew up in San Anselmo, California.
