Urban graffiti: How Spatial Planning and Architectural Design redefine graffiti
In the complex landscape of urban development, public art and graffiti hold a unique place as powerful forms of self-expression and cultural dialogue. Graffiti, often dismissed as vandalism, occupies a contested space in public consciousness—simultaneously revered as a form of artistic rebellion and criticized as an act of defacement. The tension surrounding graffiti reveals deeper questions about urban spaces: Who controls them? Whose voices are allowed to resonate? And how can architecture play a role in shaping perceptions and fostering inclusivity? This thesis investigates the potential of graffiti as a legitimate medium for addressing urban challenges, reshaping stereotypes, and promoting community cohesion
