Dr Arfan Ghani is an academic/technologist with research interests in neuromorphic hardware, deep neural architectures and integrated healthcare electronics within smart cities. He got an M.Sc. Computer Systems Engineering (VLSI System Design) from the Technical University of Denmark, Copenhagen and PhD in Neural Engineering from the University of Ulster, UK. He has more than 17 years of academic and industrial R&D experience and has worked as a post-doc on UK/EU research grants (EPSRC/EU-FP7). He has been PI/Co-PI on research grants funded by the Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) UK, Royal Academy of Engineering (UK), German Aerospace Centre and Coventry University in collaboration with UK/EU institutions. Dr. Ghani's industrial experience involves working as a Research Scientist at Intel Research, University of Cambridge and Microchip, Denmark. Arfan has published over 50 papers and currently collaborating with a number of research groups in the UK, Pakistan, Korea and Germany. He is a Chartered Engineer (IET) and a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy in the UK. Arfan has been successful in generating research income of over £1 Million and currently directing a research team in smart healthcare and integrated healthcare electronics (supervising 2 post-docs, 5 PhDs and 5 M.Sc. students).   

Arfan is currently serving as an Associate Editor of Elsevier Neurocomputing and International Journal of Neural Engineering. He is a member of various program committees, and international conferences and has been invited as a keynote speaker for several conferences/workshops in the UK, UAE and Pakistan. Arfan also serves as an IET Academic Accreditor in the UK.
