Professor Arfan Ghani is an academic and technologist specialising in AI hardware accelerators, neuromorphic engineering, computer vision, ASIC/FPGA design, and precision neurotechnologies. He holds an M.Sc. in Computer Systems Engineering (VLSI System Design) from the Technical University of Denmark and a PhD in Neural Engineering from the University of Ulster, UK. With over 18 years of academic and industrial R&D experience, Dr Ghani has worked as a post-doc on UK/EU research grants (EPSRC/EU-FP7) and led or co-led grants from the Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP), Royal Academy of Engineering, German Aerospace Centre, and Coventry University, UK.
His industrial experience includes roles at Intel Research, University of Cambridge, and Microchip, Denmark. Dr. Ghani has published over 80 papers and collaborates with research groups in the UK, Pakistan, Germany and the UAE. He is a Chartered Engineer (IET) and a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy in the UK. Dr. Ghani has secured over £700k in research funding and currently directs a team in hardware accelerators, and AI-enabled healthcare, supervising 2 post-docs, 5 PhDs, and 5 M.Sc. students.
He serves as Associate Editor for Neurocomputing, International Journal of Neural Engineering, Discover Internet of Things, and is involved in various program committees and international conferences. Dr. Ghani has been invited as a keynote speaker in the UK, UAE, and Pakistan and is an IET Academic Accreditor in the UK.
