ART 3-5
with Mrs. Bullock
WELCOME to the 2024-25 school year in ART-
This year, we will really focus on our thematic goal:
We choose, WE own - We grow....
Scholarly Habit for January- *Perhaps it can be as simple as making a sketch without looking for perfection.
Our scholarly habit of the month for January is goal setting. Setting a goal means choosing a specific area of life where we would like to achieve new levels of excellence. To practice this at home, ask your child what goals he/she has for the coming year. Make sure your child sticks to just one or two to avoid becoming overwhelmed. You might even consider setting a goal together as a family. Your family might consider setting goals related to reading books together, spending time outside, cutting back on electronics, learning a new skill, eating dinner with one another, or getting active. One of the best ways to accomplish goals is to work on them with our community! Whether your child is working on a personal goal or you are working on a goal together as a family, remember to make a clear plan so that you have tangible steps to take. To add to the fun, email a photo of your child’s or family’s goal to LDonorioDemeo@archwayarete.org to be featured on our atrium TV. We can't wait to see what goals our students choose!
Every year we use various materials in the
art making process. Students will see how important art is to life. We will learn that making mistakes is a huge part of the learning process.
Art is a language that is multifaceted. Students will find that some materials are easier to work with than others, but they will find success in at least one. I want students to learn not to compare themselves to others, but to find their uniqueness as they create and look to the masters for guidance.
Our young scholars will see how artists use the various elements when they create their art.
Scholars will practice by copying master works and by using what they learned to make their own masterpieces.

Here is a brief look at: MRS. BULLOCK
This is my sixth year within the GREAT HEARTS network. My first year was at Archway Chandler teaching art . The following year I worked with the ELL students online. It is great to be back in the art room again at Arete for year two.
I have a huge passion for the arts, and want to transfer that love to students.
My studies include: Montserrat College of Art in Beverly, Massachusetts. This was the foundational study of drawing and painting. It was a specialized study because the college only had 300 students. I studied the same way the masters did by observation. It was a great honour to study in Italy for a semester, and learn fresco painting and look at master works up close. I moved to Arizona 29 years ago and continued my studies in language, fine art, and psychology. I believe learning is a life-long process that we should enjoy. I am married with two very spirited boys.
I am looking forward to doing art this year with ARETE scholars!!!
