Professor Claudia Ruitenberg presented how - in her own words “I am currently redirecting my work to focus more on regenerative responses to the climate crisis and other aspects of our ecological condition. In this, I have found myself returning to Arendt’s work, and the work of others discussing it in this context (e.g., Ingerid Straume, Joris Vlieghe, Paul Ott). Arendt’s claim that “educators … stand in relation to the young as representatives of a world for which they must assume responsibility although they themselves did not make it, and even though they may, secretly or openly wish it were other than it is” is haunting, and I am especially interested in what “assuming responsibility” can and should look like today”.
