No special parts required for this workshop. Instead of building something I want to show you some very useful web based tools to use instead of the Arduino IDE. We will go through installation and all the features.
We will also do a follow-up to the speedometer in case any of you have any questions or ran into problems trying to build yours.

Speedometer Part 2
We will make improvements to the speedometer we made in Part 1, including an LCD screen for readouts. I'm also planning to have a special guest for the show. I will post a parts list in the next few days. If you missed the Sept show, see the parts list and sketches below. Watch the YouTube video and you should be able to make the speedometer we will be working with for this show.

Sept 6, 2017 Workshop - Speedometer Part 1
We will begin building our first Arduino Model Railroad Speedometer that you could use on your layout or for for speed matching . By the end of the first night you will have a basic working speedometer. In following workshops we will continue to improve it by adding new and better features. I think this building block approach is much better than just copying a more elaborate project that may take a few nights of workshops to get to a working product. Breaking into smaller chunks will allow us to learn many new skills as we go. In addition to usual Arduino, breadboard and wires, you will need some additional parts if you would like to build along with this project.
PARTS LIST
(Qty 1) TM1637 LED Digital Tube 4 digit 7 segment with I2C backpack
(Qty 2) TCRT5000 Optical Sensor pair
(Qty 2) 10K ohm resistor
(Qty 2) 150 ohm resistor
(Qty 2) 100K ohm resistor
Search eBay (US sellers only) and you will find all of these cheap and readily available with much quicker shipping than from China.
