Arden Muller was the Mayor of Washington from 1977 to 1981. Before that, he was an alderman from 1973 to 1977.
Serving his hometown of Washington first as an alderman and then as Mayor, Arden Muller brought a wealth of life experience to the public arena. An Army veteran and reservist, he was an active member of AMVETS Post 64. He served as a Board Trustee at the Evangelical United Methodist Church. Additionally, the honorable 33rd Degree Mason was a member of Temple Masonic Lodge 46, AF & AM; Scottish Rite Bodies Valley of Peoria, Mohammed Shriners Temple in Peoria, Royal Order of Jesters Peoria Court 40, ElHajj Caravanserai 6, Elks Lodge 20 and Eagles Lodge 265. He was a Woodford County Farm Bureau member and a Washington Kiwanis Club charter member in 1978.
Born November 7, 1935, in Washington to Charles W. and Gertrude E. Hess Muller, he married Doris Southern on May 1, 1961, in Mexico, Missouri. Arden and Doris raised four children: two sons - Arden, Jr. and Carl, and two daughters - Ann and Jeanine.
To support his family, Arden worked as an electrician for Washington Electric from 1957 to 1983 and was a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 34 for more than 43 years; he then struck out on his own and operated Muller Electric in Washington from 1983 until January 2000.
Arden Muller never stopped giving back to his hometown and never fully retired.
Muller passed away on April 1, 2002, and is buried in Glendale Cemetery.
