This Privacy Policy explains how Archivist Reader (“the App,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) handles information when you browse, stream, or locally cache media from the Internet Archive. The App does not host or distribute content and does not operate any servers for user data.
By using the App, you agree to the practices described in this policy.
Archivist Reader does not require account creation and does not collect, store, transmit, or process any personally identifiable information (“PII”).
The App stores only minimal information locally on your device, such as:
Display and content preferences (e.g., theme, filters, NSFW settings)
Resume positions for previously viewed or played media
User-created lists like favourites or pinned collections
This information remains on your device and is never transmitted to us or third parties.
To load and stream content, the App makes direct requests to Archive.org.
These requests are governed by the Internet Archive’s own privacy policy, which we do not control.
The App does not intercept, analyze, or store any personal information within these requests.
To improve performance, the App may temporarily cache media files and artwork.
Cached Files: May persist only during App use and are automatically cleared on App closure or when you manually clear the cache.
Preferences: Favourites and other local data remain until you uninstall the App or clear its data.
Transmission: No cached information is transmitted off-device.
Archivist Reader uses no analytics, no advertising SDKs, and no tracking technologies. We do not collect usage statistics, behavioral data, identifiers, or device information.
The App may request optional permissions, such as media access, solely to support:
Displaying downloaded/cached media.
Playing or reading content retrieved from Archive.org.
Note: Declining permissions may disable certain features but does not result in any data collection.
The App may open external websites (e.g., Internet Archive donation pages, Ko-fi).
Your activity on these sites is subject to their respective privacy policies.
We do not control or assume responsibility for third-party data practices.
The App is not intended for children under 13 (or the age of digital consent in your region).
We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
If such information is inadvertently collected, it will be deleted promptly.
All data used by the App remains solely on your device and is protected by your device's native security features. No user data is transmitted or stored externally.
You can delete all App-related data at any time by:
Clearing the App’s cache.
Clearing the App’s storage/data.
Uninstalling the App.
These actions permanently remove all stored preferences and cached content.
Archivist Reader is designed to operate without collecting or transmitting personal data. Because all data stays on the user’s device, many GDPR and CCPA provisions do not apply; however, the App complies with these frameworks as described below.
None. The App does not collect, sell, share, or process personal information under GDPR or CCPA definitions.
Because no personal data is collected or processed:
No lawful basis (such as consent or legitimate interest) is required.
All operations occur locally, solely for the purpose of essential app functionality.
Although we do not collect personal data, users may exercise their rights through device controls:
Right of Access: Not applicable — no data is sent to or stored by the developer.
Right to Rectification: Not applicable — the App stores no personal data externally.
Right to Erasure: Fully supported by uninstalling the App or clearing its data.
Right to Restrict or Object: Not applicable — no processing of personal data occurs.
Right to Data Portability: Not applicable — the App holds no transferable user data.
The App does not:
Collect personal information
Sell personal information
Share personal information for advertising
Engage in profiling or tracking
As a result, CCPA rights (access, deletion, opt-out) are satisfied by default because no qualifying data is collected.
Since all data remains on the user’s device and is never transmitted to us:
No server-side retention period applies.
Users maintain full control over all stored information.
All data can be deleted instantly via device settings or by uninstalling the App.
The only external service used is Archive.org, which provides media and metadata.
We do not send personal information to Archive.org; only standard network requests necessary for retrieving content occur.
Interactions with the Internet Archive are governed solely by their terms and privacy policy.
Archivist Reader does not sell or share personal information, and therefore no opt-out mechanism is required.
The App provides access to media hosted by the Internet Archive. Users are responsible for ensuring their use of such content complies with applicable laws and the Internet Archive’s terms of service.
We may update this Privacy Policy periodically. Material revisions will be reflected by an updated “Last Updated” date. Continued use of the App constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
