Interview w/ a Robotic Engineer
We met with robotic engineer, Huy Nguyen from Boeing.
He emphasized on being iterative during the build process, getting feedback from teammates, coaches and experts in timely manner is helpful.
He explained robotics solution include both hardware and software that should work together.
He emphasized on doing multiple research and identify pros and cons for each attachment and make design decisions after doing thorough research. We applied all of his feedback in our project. For example, we collected feedback from experts like himself and others. We tried to integrate our hardware and software. We made design decisions based on an analysis of usefulness and cost.
Interview w/ an Archaeologist
We met with an archaeologist, Susanna Bush from UC Berkeley on the Pompeii project. We were excited to learn about her experience as an archeologist and her experience in Roman household archaeology.
We shared our Archeo-bot idea with her, and she provided valuable feedback on how to improve for real world use cases.
For example: she suggested to make our robot waterproof as many entrances to caves are underwater or the inside of the caves may have water buildup. To enhance its exploration capabilities, she also recommended including LIDAR and GPR technologies, both of which were incorporated into our design based on her feedback.
