The thought to establish the Cape Town Archdiocesan Choir was the brain child of the Late Professor Nicholas Basson, who envisaged a group of choristers within the Archdiocese of Cape Town who could provide choral music at all liturgical events such as Ordinations, The Chrism Mass, the Bicentennial celebrations for the 200 years of the Catholic Church in Southern Africa and for various other Masses and liturgies. The choir sings a vast repertoire, and aims to foster their love of singing and to share that joy with others.
The choir was established in May 2017 under the leadership of Ilze Sidney, and from their humble beginnings from just 15 members, they have since grown to 30 committed and talented individuals in the short time that they have been together. Members are invited to attend based on their vocal capability and music knowledge.
The group has a diverse membership of talented music directors and parish choir singers from the parishes Belville, Bergvliet, The Cathedral, Durbanville, Elsies River, Grassy Park, Kuils River, Landsdowne, Matroosfontein, Pinelands Rocklands, Strandfontein and Woodstock.
