Hi, I'm Aravind
I am an Assistant Professor in Law at the University of Sussex. (ORCID: 0000-0003-1865-7468)
My research explores the implications of Kant's legal and political philosophy for issues of contemporary relevance in diverse fields of private and public law. My research has appeared in such journals as Legal Theory, the Buffalo Law Review, and the Michigan Journal of International Law. My book was published by Hart/Bloomsbury in the Law and Practical Reason series.
My interests revolve around private law (tort, fiduciary relations, public carriers), environmental justice and 'public goods', and reimagining the law of the sea on Kantian foundations. Please do get in touch if you're also interested in these subjects.
I hold a PhD (cum laude) from VU Amsterdam, as well as law degrees from King’s College London, Columbia Law School, and Oxford. I have also held visiting fellowships at Université Catholique de Louvain and Tel Aviv University.
Before embarking on academia I served as a research associate to the UN Special Rapporteur on the Right to Food, practiced as a corporate lawyer in New York, and volunteered in South Africa with the Legal Resources Centre.
Before all of this still, my greatest, and perhaps most longstanding love, is Karnatic music. A close second might be birds.
