Lottery allocation takes place in turn order and entails mandatory membership in the association. To be a member, you live in Umeå municipality, pay an annual fee, which is determined by the annual meeting, and actively cultivate on the area allocated to you. The distribution of the plots takes place via an email based waiting list, at the moment the queue time is up to four years. To join the list, send us an email with your name, email address and a phone number. This is so that we can get in touch with each other. The association's main way of contact is through email.
When you've been allocated a cultivation plot on the association's territory must start using and cultivate the plot before the end of May. This means: that the soil must be dug, fertilized and regularly cleared of weeds during spring, summer and autum. A member need to use the plot as subject of sowing or planting plants and that what is grown is harvested.
Åran's cultivation association has both statutes and rules of procedure that members are expected to follow, these are revised at the annual meeting that takes place at the beginning of the year. Each member has a vote at the association's meetings and with it the opportunity to democratically influence the association.
The Growers' Association Åran rests on a democratic and inclusive foundation of values where the equal value of all people is central. This means we welcome diversity and variety among our growers and members. Here we respect each other regardless of our differences, age, gender, origin, religion or sexual orientation. We all contribute to a pleasant community by using a good tone and respecting our members' different conditions for cultivation.
Meetings for work/community are held a few times during the season where development and maintenance of common areas takes place. There is also a Facebook group for members where we share our experiences together and inspire each other.
