The Arab Collector is a digital platform that promotes numismatic knowledge, philately, banknotes, exonumia, medals, and historical documentation in the Arab world. It was founded in March 2016 by Mazen Mira and Moheb Rizkalla. Also known in Arabic as المُقتني العربي (Al-Muqtani Al-Arabi). The word Muqtani in Arabic refers to collectors or people who possess valuable objects, such as coins or postage stamps. This word is often used by Arab researchers and hobbyists, who are passionate about collecting items.
The Arab Collector was founded in 2016 as a free online magazine, The suggested name for the magazine was “Coins & Stamps” “عملات وطوابع” in Arabic. Representing the two main topics of the magazine. the name was changed to The Arab Collector before the release of the first issue.
The inaugural issue of the publication was released in May 2016, and it featured several columns from different writers focusing on a range of topics, In August 2016, the “Coin Index” collaborated with The Arab Collector to increase the number of publishers from Jordan, In May 2017, the “Arabian Coins” from the USA collaborated with the publication.
The Arab Collector’s official website was launched in February 2017 to publish news about numismatics, philately, and banknotes. It also works to develop visual content through social media platforms, related forums, and other websites including but not limited to Google books, and Academia.
In 2020 started creating materials for webinars related to Numismatic & Philatelic history or in conjunction with other organisations.
The Arab Collector has been assigned an International Standard Serial Number (ISSN) in 2020 from the ISSN National Centre for Australia, different topics were cited in different news articles. In 2022, Google news recognized The Arab Collector’s status as a digital publisher.
