Collection of Skill effects
Skill descriptions in aqw tend to vary from class to class, from early to more recent, from simple to complex, and so on. Most skill descriptions try to get a balance between flavour text and actual relevant information that would be useful for the player, sometimes this balance is not executed all that well, other times the info provided is either incorrect, or misleading. The purpose of this section is to present a documentation of the precise and exact mechanical properties of some of the more obscure skill effects that are usually only vaguely explained, (presumably for ease of casual reading). I will be listing the definitions provided in game versus the more rigorous definitions and you can decide for yourself which is more beneficial/relevant for the average player.
Arcane Shield:
- In-game description: Shields the caster, transferring most incoming damage to their MP instead of HP
- Qualitative analysis: Reduces incoming damage according to the following formula: Percentage of damage reduced = 2.8*10^-8(x^2) - 2*10^-4(x) + 0.468, where x is the incoming damage. The more damage, the less is reduced. Interacts multiplicatively with any other forms of damage mitigation. Consumes 8 mana per hit taken, regardless of damage amount. Damage mitigation is taken after the critical hit modifier.
Bone Gauntlet:
- In-game description: Strike with your Bone Gauntlet and Deathgrasp your enemies. Up to three foes feel their life slowly crushed causing damage over time and reducing their damage output. Enemy damage reduced more with more stacks of Bone Harvested. Has a small chance to give you a Calcium Rush which buffs your haste by 30% for 6 seconds.
- Qualitative analysis: Reduces enemy damage output by an initial 5%, and then an additional 5% with subsequent stacks. Seems to cap at 8 stacks, or 45% damage reduction, rather than 10.
Cerement:
- In-game description: You tap into the power of Death to pull your form back together. Heals you a moderate amount, and significantly increases your damage resistance for 10 seconds, increased by stacks of Bone Harvested. Also applies Tainted Marrow which reduces your damage output and crit chance for 6 seconds.
- Qualitative analysis: Increases player damage resistance by an initial 40% and then an additional 5% with each subsequent stack. Is in fact conditioned to bone Gathered, not bone harvested.
Curse of the Grimskull:
- In-game description: Curse up to 3 foes with the burden of Grimskull and inflict a damage over time effect that also slows your foe's haste and forces them to attack you. Enemy haste reduced more with more stacks of Bone Harvested.
- Qualitative analysis: Debuffs enemy haste by an initial 15%, and then by an additional 5% with subsequent stacks.
Event Horizon:
- In-game description: Reduces all incoming damage on an amount based on attack power.
- Qualitative analysis: Reduces all incoming damage according to the following equation: Percentage of damage reduced = 7.26*10^-4(x) + 5.66*10^-4, where x is your attack power. Interacts multiplicatively with any other forms of damage mitigation.
Equinox:
- In-game description: Alters space and time around the enemy, dealing moderate damage and applies Prior Dawn, increasing their haste and DoT taken depending on stacks of temporal rift for 12s. If there are no stacks of Temporal Rift applies Subsequent Dusk, dealing Moderate Damage and decreasing their Haste and DoT taken by 50% for 12 seconds.
- Qualitative analysis: The initial stack of temporal shift (not rift) increases enemy DoT in by 50%, subsequent stacks increase in increments of 5% with each stack, up to a maximum of 125%. Enemy receives 55% haste on the initial stack and then an additional 5% with each subsequent stack however, can only apply one haste instance at a time, due to haste stacking not working. Decrease of haste and DoT in is in fact 50% and is based on the absence of temporal rift.
Sacred Magic: Eden
- In game description: Deals massive damage buffed by the stacks of DoT from Commandment, capping out at 5 stacks. Consumes stacks of Commandment and Divine.
- Qualitative analysis: Damage dealt under 0 stacks (base damage) = (Weapon DPS*6.78) + (Spell DPS*7.84). Each stack increases the damage done by (base damage*0.16). Damage done increased is applied before crit modifier.
Stiletto:
- In game description: Deals moderate damage, and applies Concealed Blade, causing your attacks to do more damage the lower your target's HP is (if below 40%) for 20 seconds.
- Qualitative analysis: Increases the damage output of all your skills the lower your target's HP is (from <40% onwards), according to the following equation: Damage increased (as a percentage) = 4 - 7.47x, where x is the ratio of your target's current health divided by their total health. Caps at 400%.
