Hello, my name is Alexis Poe. I am pursuing my doctoral degree in occupational therapy at the University of St. Augustine in Dallas, Texas. I attended Truman State University, obtaining a Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science with a concentration in occupational therapy. At Truman, I competed on the women's swim team for 4 years. My experiences have failed my interest in aquatic therapy. I am passionate about water-based exercise and hope to inspire others to explore its benefits.
The Project
A capstone experience is a project or course typically completed at the end of an academic program. It allows students to apply the knowledge and skills they've gained to a real-world problem or research question, showcasing their expertise and readiness for professional or academic pursuits.
This capstone project explores perspectives of AT in a neuro-rehab setting, specifically with OTs, and how education on AT can be improved within this setting to incorporate AT more.
The location of the project took place at Pate Neuro-Rehab in Fort Worth, TX
A needs assessment was conducted to determine the patient's and OT's perspectives on AT
Educational modules were given to OTs and patients regarding AT and its benefits for brain injury rehab
The program was evaluated to determine whether or not patients and OTs gained more insight into AT from the education that was provided
This project would not have been possible without...
