How does the calculation work?

AquaCalc uses a standard dilution formula to determine the minimum amount of water to change. It calculates the percentage of the old water that needs to be replaced with new, nitrate-free water to reach your target concentration (ppm).

Can I use the calculator for other compounds besides nitrates?

Yes! Although designed with nitrates in mind, the calculator works for any compound measured in parts-per-million (ppm), such as nitrites, ammonia, or medication concentrations, where the goal is dilution.

Why do I get an error if my target nitrate level is higher than my current level?

A water change can only dilute or lower a compound's concentration. It's not possible to raise the concentration through dilution. Please ensure your target level is lower than your current reading.

What units does the app support?

AquaCalc supports both Gallons and Litres for aquarium volume. You can easily switch between the two units on the main calculator screen.
