Title: Fourier optimization and number theory
Abstract: This is a talk at the interface between harmonic analysis and number theory. Broadly speaking, the philosophy I want to present is that some problems in number theory can be explored through the lens of a Fourier optimization framework. This usually involves two non-trivial steps: (i) establish a link between the number theoretical problem and an optimization problem in analysis; (ii) solve this optimization problem. I plan to discuss situations involving prime gaps, problems in the theory of the Riemann zeta-function, and equidistribution of roots of polynomials. The talk will be aimed to a broad audience with a minimal background in analysis and number theory.
