April Friesen

About Me!

Hello! My name is April Friesen. I grew up in Littleton, Colorado and spend time skiing, Star Wars watching, watching movies with my little sister Victoria, and hiking with my family. I have a younger sister and two pets. I am a first-year biochemistry and sociology major at the University of Denver.

As a recent graduate from Columbine High School, I was involved in Student Senate, NHS, Unity in Action, and philanthropic work with Dysautonomia International and Kenya Kidz. As a former dancer, I have a great appreciation for the arts, but found my passion in the field of science after getting sick with a chronic illness called Dysautonomia back in 2016; this allowed me to gain an understanding of the medical world as well as sympathy for those with chronic illness.

With my passion for change within the pain industry, I believe I can empathize with my future patients, as well as develop a better understanding of how pain works. I am looking forward to attending medical school to get a better understanding of anatomy that I can apply to my desire to help others.

During my time at the University of Denver, in addition to preparing for medical school, I want to improve my communication skills. I am looking forward to my time at school where I can learn, create meaningful friendships, and network and establish connections for my future career. I truly believe that the University of Denver will provide me with the resources to achieve all of my goals and I am so excited to grow into a person I am proud of.
