The mural, situated at the bus stop and near the old train station, is conceived as "Welcome to Keene!" I wanted to show select inhabitants of the region--ones that I personally find so special and visually appealing. I also wanted to make them known, and seen, and bring them into the heart of downtown, as they are in my heart wherever I go.  It's a reminder of what's right outside our back doors here.  Yes, it is also a plea for their protection as we are responsible for that (hence the centrality of the girl).  With the reduction of all things wild--our doing-- these plants and animals are in a struggle for existence. In my life, nature has been a bottomless source of solace and inspirational source of joy totally free and available to me (and anyone) just by being open to it.
