The ISSS staff at Perimeter College is thinking about you, and we are committed to maintaining dedicated support and services to you during this time that Georgia State University has transitioned to on-line instruction and we must make adjustments due to COVID-19.
We will continue to operate under normal operating procedures for the remainder of the semester, just from a remote and online platform. This means you can call us directly or email us to request information and/or telephone/web appointments for advisement during our regular advisement hours. Please call us at 678-891-3235 or email issspc@gsu.edu.
Here are two very important GSU links we recommend you review regularly:

Though the university has transitioned to an on-line environment and has extended the withdraw period for students wishing to withdraw from courses, it is very important that F-1 students continue to maintain full-time enrollment minimums.
Visit >>HERE<< to review those requirements, and please ask ISSS for more information BEFORE you make decisions to drop courses at this time.

NEW: Deadline to submit federal and state tax forms has been extended from April 15 to July 15, 2020.
Spring is tax season in the U.S. based on tax year 2019 (January 1, 2019 – December 31, 2019). If you initially arrived in the US in 2020, there are no IRS requirements for you this year. All others have at least 1 tax form to complete.
ISSS recommends that you complete tax forms as soon as possible even though the deadline is extended.
ISSS offers FREE tax preparation software called Sprintax. It is a safe, secure, online software designed specifically for international students and scholars. ISSS advises you to ONLY use Sprintax. Sprintax is available to use. Please start by reviewing the ISSS Tax Information page on our website >> HERE <<
ISSS has received reports of unknown individuals pretending to be IRS agents who try to collect tax payments via calls or emails. THIS IS A SCAM!
If you receive such contact, ignore it or ask ISSS first. For more details, please watch this short VIDEO about tax fraud and let your friends know.
Each spring, Culture Fest (Dunwoody Campus) and the International Festival (Clarkston) highlight and celebrate the rich cultural diversity at Perimeter College. While the organizers who were planning these events with much enthusiasm regret having to cancel/postpone these events due to school closure, they completely support the priority of putting the health and well-being of the GSU community first. Both committees look forward to bringing these two fun and vibrant events to campus for your enjoyment and participation as soon as that becomes possible.
Would you like to make new friends while welcoming new international students to Perimeter College? Would you like to help plan International Coffee Hours and other cultural events to provide opportunities for culture sharing at Perimeter College? If this sounds like you and you would like to apply to join the IPA team, please complete an application HERE
Applications due: Wednesday, April 8, 2020 at 5 p.m.
The rewards include gaining experience you can put on your resume, meeting new people, practicing valuable leadership skills. This will be a short-term paid position.
Post Completion Optional Practical Training (OPT) is a benefit that allows temporary employment directly related to an F-1 student's major area of study upon program completion. OPT at the Associate degree level is for a period of 12 months maximum. For more information about OPT and to access the on-line OPT Workshop, click here
Students graduating at the end of spring 2020 who are interested in applying for OPT should first complete the on-line OPT workshop. The next step is to contact ISSS to schedule an OPT appointment to review the application process during advising hours. For an OPT appointment, please call 678-891-3235:
ISSS ADVISING HOURS: Monday - Wednesday from 9 to 11:30 am and Monday – Friday from 1:30 to 4 pm
Attention Spring 2020 graduates: The deadline to apply for OPT is July 3, 2020. In order to accommodate for processing and mailing times, you must submit the Post-Completion OPT Request eForm in iStart by no later June 22, 2020. OPT eForm requests submitted after June 22 are not guaranteed to meet your July 3, 2020 OPT application deadline.

Due to COVID-19, we advise careful consideration of your travel plans this summer, especially if you need to renew or obtain an F-1 visa. The situation is changing daily, so please review the following links:
If you plan to travel internationally, DON'T forget to request an updated travel signature via iStart. You need an updated signature if your last one is more than 6 months old. Processing time is 3-5 business days. Due to the current COVID-19 campus closure, ISSS is issuing an electronically signed I-20 via GSU email, unless visa renewal is required. In the case of visa renewal, students may request to have the signed I-20 mailed at their cost. These options are subject to change based on USCIS adaptations and/or if at any time ISSS is unable to honor mailing requests. Please also review our travel information with the “Know Your Rights at the US Port of Entry” link. It contains referrals, should you ever need them.

The Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic has forced us all to make significant adjustments in a very short time. For example, class instruction has moved fully to an on-line platform, GSU services are being offered remotely, freedom to move about is limited, we must practice social distancing, etc. all for the sake of protecting our health and that of others and to slow the spread of this virus.
For international students, being far away from family can be especially difficult in times like these. ISSS admires your resilience, adaptability, and determination during these challenging times, and we’d love to hear about the creative ways you are managing challenges and any tips you have to share with others. We believe that your shared experiences will be a great opportunity to encourage and empower us all.
Stories should be 200 words or less. We will select 3 stories to include in the May edition of the ISSS Newsletter. We will contact authors of the selected stories to obtain permission to print your story prior to doing so.
To share your story about how you are creatively coping with a change and/or overcoming a challenge related to COVID-19, click >>HERE<<
