Easily paste grades into iSams Mark Books!

iSams Utilities (formerly GradesPaster for iSams Mark Book) is a Google Chrome extension that enables additional useful and time-saving functionality in iSams. pasting grades into a mark book in iSams from Google Sheets, Excel or similar sources - no more endless clicking and selecting each grade individually! It now also makes URLs in the Note field in Learning Support (LS and G&T) Reports clickable when you preview these reports, and works in the new iSams user interface.

Why the name change?

As the features of this extension expanded beyond just Mark Books, the old name no longer reflected its growing scope. I plan to keep adding more features to the extension, hoping for it to become a kind of 'utility belt' for iSams.

I created iSams Utilities extension after I had to start using Mark Books in iSams and discovered there was no built-in copy-paste functionality. The idea of having to click thousands of times to enter all the grades for reports did not sit well with me, so I made this extension. Then I found some other areas lacking in some way. And then a few more teachers mentioned a some more "I wish it would..." things. Hope iSams Utilities makes your life as a teacher/iSams admin a little easier, too!

HOW DOES ISAMS UTILITIES WORK?

iSams Utilities currently can work only on iSams-hosted instances (*.isams.cloud domains).

Pasting grades into Mark Book

The extension loads automatically (can be turned off on the Options page - see below) on iSams Mark Book pages when in ‘editing’ mode. Currently it only lets you paste one column of grades at a time. On the very first paste, Google Chrome will prompt you to ‘allow [your iSams domain] to access your clipboard’ - make sure to click “Allow”, or you won’t be able to paste any grades!

Pasting data into Bulk Update fields

The extension allows you to paste data into all fields in a column in Bulk Update windows of Pupil Manager. Select a column to paste the data into by clicking on the column header, copy data from your source (Google Sheet / Excel / etc), and hit Ctrl+V to paste it in. Before pasting, please make sure the data in your source file is in the same order as in the Bulk Update window!

Clickable links in LS/G&T Report previews and Student Notes

The extensions will make any URL you enter into LS/G&T/Student Notes clickable when viewed. Useful for linking to, for example, a Google Doc with an IEP for a student.

FEATURES

NEW: On LS and G&T Report print preview pages, converts URLs in Notes field into clickable links - now LS admins can put a link to a shared Google Doc into student Notes, instead of having to upload a document, and re-upload every time it is updated!
NEW: now also works in new iSams user interface!
On iSams Mark Book page with mark book is ‘edit’ mode, lets you copy/paste grades from external source (Google Sheet, MS Excel, or similar). Grades can be pasted one column at a time
Loads automatically (can be disabled in Options - see below)
Simple, guided user interface
Data validation built-in:
- Checks that number of grades being pasted matches number of students in the mark book
- Checks that values being pasted match the grade values accepted in the column being pasted into

PRIVACY & PERMISSIONS

iSams Utilities does not require any special permissions beyond knowing when you are on isams.cloud website.

No personal user data is collected by the extension.

OPTIONS

Enable/disable automatic loading of iSams Utilities on iSams website

To access iSams Utilities options, right-click on the extension’s icon in the Chrome toolbar and select ‘Options’.

When automatic loading is disabled, you can still manually start iSams Utilities on an iSams website by right-clicking on a supported page and selecting iSams Utilities item.
