Want to stay up to date on APPRREN 2027
APPRREN 2027 explores how influence is created, negotiated and contested across the Asia-Pacific. It examines how public relations can engage influential voices not only as communication channels, but also as publics, partners, advocates and sources of strategic insight.
Submissions are invited from researchers, educators and practitioners examining influence within public relations across the Asia-Pacific. Contributions may draw on theory, empirical research, teaching innovation, case studies or professional practice. Submissions may address one or more of the following themes:
Opinion leaders, creators and intermediaries – Examines the actors who cultivate audiences, shape opinion and mediate relationships between organisations and publics. Topics include digital creators (including virtual and digital avatars), journalists, experts, activists, employees, political and religious leaders, community representatives and other influential intermediaries.
Influencers as publics and representatives – Considers influential actors as stakeholders, advocates and sources of public insight rather than simply communication channels. Topics include two-way symmetrical communication, organisational listening, co-creation, consultation, advocacy and the use of influencers in crisis communication. Critical perspectives on influence, power, legitimacy, ethics and whose voices are amplified or marginalised are also welcome.
Measuring the value of influence – Explores approaches to evaluating influence beyond reach, impressions and engagement, including trust, relationships, credibility, behavioural outcomes and public value.
Non-digital influence – Examines the enduring role of interpersonal communication, face-to-face engagement, community and professional networks, traditional media, cultural authority, word of mouth and other locally embedded forms of influence.
Community voices and grassroots influence – Explores how influence emerges through communities, social movements, local networks and collective action. Topics include community engagement, advocacy, activism, participatory public relations, social licence and civic participation.
Educating for influence – Focuses on preparing future practitioners and developing the capability of the current workforce to operate ethically within complex influence environments. Topics include curriculum design, creator and stakeholder engagement, cultural competence, platform literacy, ethics, measurement and work-integrated learning.
AI, algorithms and mediated influence – Examines how artificial intelligence and algorithmic systems are reshaping influence in public relations. Topics include generative AI, algorithmic curation, AI-assisted communication, synthetic media, platform governance, transparency, trust and ethics.
