WHAT IS KITAS/KITAP
KITAS stands for Limited Stay Permit Card, which is a type of residence permit issued by the Indonesian government for foreigners who wish to stay in Indonesia for a certain period of time. KITAS is the main requirement for foreigners who want to live and work in Indonesia.
KITAS has several benefits for foreigners, such as allowing foreigners to work and live in Indonesia for a certain period of time, allowing foreigners to open bank accounts in Indonesia, and allowing foreigners to buy property or own businesses in Indonesia. Foreigners holding a KITAS can also freely leave Indonesia and then enter Indonesia without having to bother applying for a visa again.
While KITAP (stands for Permanent Residence Permit Card) is a permit given to foreign nationals who will stay in Indonesian territory for a long period of time. KITAP is valid for five (5) years and can be extended for an unlimited period of time as long as the residence permit is not canceled. You must have a KITAS first if you want to have a KITAP
KITAS is issued for a specified period of one year or longer, depending on the individual's circumstances and needs. KITAS can be extended annually during the period of stay in Indonesia.
Still from the Immigration page, KITAS has a duration upon arrival, a maximum of six months, one year, two years, up to five years.
After obtaining a KITAS, foreigners must undergo several procedures, such as making a photo pass and fingerprints, and taking a medical examination. Foreigners must also set up a bank account in Indonesia and follow other procedures determined by the government.

To obtain a KITAS, foreigners must fulfill several conditions, such as:
ITAS (Limited Stay Permit) application letter from the sponsor
Letter of statement and guarantee from the sponsor
ID card of the sponsor
ITAS application form
Original passport and photocopy
Certificate of domicile (hotel or apartment)
Indonesian wife or husband sponsor, attach Marriage Book, sponsor's ID card and Sponsor's Family Card.
For the Indonesian Parent sponsor, attach the applicant's birth certificate with a certified Indonesian or English translation.
For TKA (work permit purposes) attach IMTA (Permit to Use Foreign Workers), RPTKA (Plan for the Use of Foreign Workers), marriage certificate and birth certificate (marriage certificate and birth certificate must be translated into Indonesian or English by a certified translator)
For Foreign Investment (PMA) attach Recommendations from the Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) as well as other company documents
For students, attach a letter of recommendation from the relevant institution.
KITAS Work Permit Visa
Foreigners who wish to work in the jurisdiction of the Republic of Indonesia legally must have this type of visa. Foreigners can have a work permit KITAS for a period of 6 - 24 months.
KITAS Marriage or Family
This type of KITAS is intended for foreigners who are legally married to Indonesian citizens (WNI) with proof of marriage book or official marriage certificate.
A marriage visa KITAS only allows you to stay, but not work in Indonesia. Work that is allowed only as a freelancer is not a permanent worker in the company.
KITAS Retirement
Retirement Visa KITAS is for foreigners over 55 years old who come to Indonesia and want to retire and spend the rest of their time living in Indonesia.
The period of the retirement visa KITAS is 1 (one) year and can be extended up to 4 (four) times. This means it has a longer duration than other Limited Stay Permit Cards.
KITAS Investor
KITAS Investor is a visa specially created in order to meet the needs of investors doing business in Indonesia. With this KITAS Investor, it makes it easier for investors in matters relating to staying in Indonesia and work permits.
KITAS Dependent
Known as Dependent KITAS, Dependent visa is a visa that allows foreigners (WNA) holding IMTA and KITAS work visas to bring their spouses and children under 18 years old.
These Dependent Visa holders are not permitted to work in Indonesia or earn income from Indonesian companies. However, if Dependent Visa holders wish to work in Indonesia, they can apply for an IMTA and earn income working part-time instead of full-time.
