If it’s about that time for you to apply for Medicare, you have come to the right spot. Some people will receiveMedicare Parts A and B automatically, and some will not.
The ones that don’thave to sign up for it. People who automatically receive Medicare when eligiblehave retirement or disability benefits from Social Security already on file.
Once you’re approved for Social Security or Railroad Retirement Board benefits,you automatically receive Part A when you’re eligible for Medicare. If you’rereceiving those benefits from Social Security at least four months before youare 65, you will get Part A and Part B coverage.
You can ultimately choosewhether to keep your Part B or not.
If you have not applied to receive benefits through SocialSecurity or the Railroad Retirement Board, you must contact Social Security tosign up for your Medicare. You can sign up for Parts A and B, or you couldapply to receive benefits from Social Security.
Once you apply for thosebenefits, you will choose if you want Medicare Part B.
When applying forMedicare through Social Security, you can sign up online at Social Security’swebsite, call Social Security over the phone, contact your Social Securityoffice, or call the Railroad Retirement Board if you or your spouse retiredfrom the railroad.
