I have enjoyed children and their zest for learning for as long as I can remember; from baby-sitting to working in my high school preschool to working as a nanny when I was first married. I have been married now for 18 years, and have an 19 year old daughter and a 12 year old son. After all of these years my happiness is still centered on teaching and caring for young children, and I love my job! We have lived in Veneta for 10 years, and we truly enjoy the sense of community here and the focus on families. This job is my passion and I plan to be doing it for as long as I can do it well!
At Applegate Community Preschool and Childcare we believe wholeheartedly in the philosophy of play-based learning, in connecting learning and creativity, and involving families in all areas of the learning process. We view our role in children’s lives as a guide, teaching skills through demonstration and allowing children to learn through their own trial and error. We believe that it is our responsibility to become truly acquainted with each child as an individual, and their families as a unit of support, care and encouragement. We cater our teaching to each child’s learning style while following the children’s interests. Our methods encourage children to be active participants in their learning and foster in them a desire for lifelong learning. We believe that children of all ability levels are entitled to the same opportunities for participation, acceptance and belonging in child care. We will make every reasonable accommodation to encourage full and active participation of all children in our program based on their individual capabilities and needs. It is our practice to encourage inclusion and involvement of families and we see this as an integral piece of the learning puzzle.
