Knax-EN

Knax is the iPhone/iPad app for all people who love to solve crosswords in newspapers and magazines but long for more dynamic or solving together with a friend who has the same interest.

But Knax is also an option for anyone tired of usual crosswords because they are too simple OR too difficult.

With Knax you may select your preferred level of "resistance".

NOTE You must be signed-in to your iPhone or iPad to use Knax!

If you have no Apple-ID/Apple-Account then you may get one (gratis!) by some method:

1 by Settings-> Sign-in ...

2 by AppStore -> Click profile picture ...

3 by the web -> "account.apple.com"

Start by downloading Knax from AppStore (gratis).

Starting screen can look something like this:

If you ever will solve knax in company with a friend then you may choose your solver-signature now - something short and simple, only letters and digits, for example "ba33" if your name happens to be Birgit Andersson.

Type in and click "Save".

The fastest way to become acquainted with Knax is with the INTRODUCTION's "Intro-Knax" with all answers in its image.

Then click "Start solver-window" and try to solve gratis-knax "Demo-Knax-EN".

The knax's image contains details for some of the clues.

A click on the image in Image-View will switch to Normal-View.

Normal-View shows the knax's all clues and letter boxes but without interlacing.

Click on the orange area will switch back to Image-View.

Click on a clue in its yellow rectangle for switch to its Word-View.

The vertical word for the clue "(IMAGE) NAMED FROM THEIR PURPOSE" will be seen with green letters inside the green frame.

The interlaced horizontal words will have black letters.

You will return to Normal-View by a click on the orange area.

You will get to next Word-View by a click on the green area.

HARD-LEVEL ("difficult-ness")

When you want to change the hard-level or erase all filled-in letters, click the "REWIND button" at the bottom of the solver window.

If you choose to switch to hard-level 1 (easiest), you can have the longest (not yet filled in) answer word filled in - to help you get started (in case of emergency!).

NOTE: When you solve with a friend, your friend will be notified of each change in your hard-level!

SOLVE WITH A FRIEND

To invite a friend to solve with, collaborate or compete, you must first agree on a suitable time and ask that the friend prepare beforehand.

Preparation for "friend WITH an iPhone or iPad":

-1 (if necessary) get an Apple ID/Apple account (do in Settings or at account.apple.com)

-2 (if necessary) log in with Apple ID (in Settings)

-3 download the Knax app from the AppStore

-4 start Knax, choose your own signature, open the solver window

-5 communicate the signature to the inviter

-6 accept your invitation

Preparation for "friend WITHOUT an iPhone or iPad":

-1 choose a computer, tablet or mobile with a suitable screen and a sufficiently modern web browser

-2 (if necessary) get an Apple ID/Apple account (can be downloaded at account.apple.com)

-3 type the web address "knax.w3spaces.com" in a web browser tab ("web Knax")

-4 click the "Sign in..." button and type your Apple ID (.... and password...)

-5 choose your own solver signature

-6 communicate the signature to the inviter

-7 accept your invitation

When your solver friend announces that it's time, you should click the "Letter button" at the bottom of the solver window.

Signature must be spelled exactly and then you click TEAMWORK or CONTEST.

If everything then works normally, your friend will see a popup with a question on his/her screen within a second.

If not, then closing + starting the app + new invitation usually always helps.

TEAMWORK means that you get to see all of your solving partner's letters and his/her hard- level.

CONTEST means that you get to see WHERE your solving partner has written and his/her hard-level as well as the number of correctly filled letters.

BUY NEW KNAX

When you want to solve another knax, you have to click the "Buy new knax" button in the start window.

This will display a list of all available knaxes:

Click on a line to buy the knax.

The screen will look something like this:

Click "Purchase".

(A) You may now be asked for your password.

(B) If you have never done any transactions with the App Store before, you must now choose a payment method.

When the purchase is complete, a couple of info pop-ups will appear.

If you take the opportunity to buy more knaxes later in the same session, you will avoid both (A) and (B).

CHANGE KNAX

Sometimes you may want to change the active knax when you have several unsolved ones in progress.

Then there are two possibilities:

-1 Click the left arrow or right arrow at the bottom of the solver window.

-2 Click "My knaxes" in the start window.

MY KNAXES

Green line shows ACTIVE knax, i.e. in the solver window.

The word "Own" means that you can invite a friend for joint solving.

The opposite is "Loan" when you can only solve by yourself (or with the inviter).

The word "Visi" means that you can activate the knax with the arrow keys.

The opposite is "Hidden" (then with a light gray background in st for green/yellow).

KEYBOARD

Click a letter to enter it in the red-framed box in Normal-View or Word-View.

The < sign gives deletion+left step.

Plus-in-ring gives zoom in.

Minus-in-ring gives zoom out.

Cross-in-ring gives depending on:

-1 (in Normal-View) if all letters filled in...mark with red frame where any letter is wrong.

-2 (in Word-View) if hard-level 1 ... replacement of the horizontal words.

BIGGER SCREEN

If you have a computer or Pad, you can solve your knaxes on a larger screen than with the Knax app.

NOTE: This only works if you have selected a solver signature in the Knax app.

Start "web-Knax" (knax.w3spaces.com) in a web browser tab and click the "Sign in..." button and enter the same Apple ID as in your Knax device.

Soon you will see the browser window resemble the Knax app's solver window with the last active Knax.
