On behalf of all of us here at APPA, welcome to the new school year! We have been hard at work all summer preparing to welcome your students back. We have a number of new initiatives and developments that we know will make this APPA's best year yet!
This fall, we're opening our new Pathways Office. All high school students will work with the three career counselors in the office to plan summer jobs, internships, college applications, trade school visits, and more. We know it will a tremendous resource for our students.
This month's newsletter is full of back to school information and statistics about your students' ongoing success. Whether you are a new family to APPA or the family of a returning students, we look forward to partnering with you throughout the year! En nombre de todos nosotros aquí en APPA, ¡bienvenidos al nuevo año escolar! Hemos trabajado duro todo el verano preparándonos para darles la bienvenida a sus estudiantes. ¡Tenemos una serie de nuevas iniciativas y desarrollos que sabemos que harán de esta APPA el mejor año hasta el momento!
Este otoño, abriremos nuestra nueva oficina Pathways. Todos los estudiantes de secundaria trabajarán con los tres consejeros profesionales de la oficina para planificar trabajos de verano, pasantías, solicitudes universitarias, visitas a escuelas vocacionales y más. Sabemos que será un recurso tremendo para nuestros estudiantes.
El boletín de este mes está lleno de información sobre el regreso a clases y estadísticas sobre el éxito continuo de sus estudiantes. Ya sea que sea una familia nueva en APPA o la familia de un estudiante que regresa, ¡esperamos colaborar con usted durante todo el año! We're excited to welcome Superintendent Marcel Deans as the new leader of our district. Superintendent Deans began his career in New York City Public Schools teaching sixth grade in Harlem. He has since served in other roles across the City including, assistant principal, founding principal, borough leadership director and most recently, deputy chief of educator development
We hope you will be able to join us on September 26th at 6:00 pm for APPA's annual Back to School Night. During the evening you will be able to meet with all of your student's teachers and hear about the year ahead! This event will likely be virtual, so look out for links later this month!
While middle school literacy scores for the whole city dropped, 2% they went up at APPA by 6.5%!
Middle school math scores went up 14.7%!
In the high school, APPA 9th and 10th graders made greater literacy gains than any other school in the district!
The high school graduation rate has climbed 9 points in two years. It is now above the city average!
Disciplinary issues are down by 75% over the last two years.
