As a social and cultural psychologist, I study the impacts of social inequalities and hierarchies that pervade our day-to-day lives.
Welcome! I am Apoorva Sarmal, and I am a Lyman T. Johnson Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of Kentucky. I work with Dr. Christopher Marshburn in the Broaching Race in Interpersonal, Dyadic, and Group Exchanges (BRIDGE) lab. In 2025, I graduated with my PhD in Social Psychology, with minors in Quantitative Methods and Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, under the advisement of Dr. Allison Skinner from the University of Georgia.

I combine expertise in social, experimental, and cultural psychology with diverse methodologies (e.g., mixed-methods, randomized interventions) and advanced statistical techniques (e.g., multilevel modeling) to investigate social inequalities and their impacts.

I earned my B.A. in French (minor in Psychology) and B.S. in Business Administration from the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point. I began graduate work in French Sociolinguistics at Indiana University Bloomington after graduating and earned my M.A. in French there. Wanting to investigate social psychological concepts, I sought training as a post-bacc research assistant in several labs at Indiana University Bloomington before joining the PhD program at the University of Georgia.
