Committee News
The ABSC committee meets at 7pm on the first Wednesday of each month. All members are (almost always) welcome to attend committee meetings. Please see the Commodore's Message for a list of Committee members. Committee updates to all members are provided through regular newsletters throughout the season.
The main tasks facing the committee include: Club Participation and growth, Integrity/ Inclusivity, Harbour matters & strategic planning.
The committee was elected to serve the club's members. Please give regular feedback (both encouraging and constructive) to your committee members to ensure we're all working together to make ABSC the best sailing club we can imagine.
Training News
On Saturday the 27th of August, the Geekies attended the Australian Sailing Instructor Conference at Royal Melbourne Yacht Squadron in St. Kilda. What a fabulous and informative event. Australian Sailing have hugely stepped up their support for Sailing Clubs across Australia by providing many programs, framework and supports to enable clubs to more readily retain, engage, train and grow their membership as active participants in sailing. Their vision is for more people to be sailing in more ways, more often. The Conference was well organised and very well catered for!!
Sessions were run on the new AS sailing vision and strategic plan, the new Club Participation program, windsurf and foiling instruction (very exciting) , a terrifically informative session on the new child safety guidelines by the AS integrity officer, Dinghy instruction, Coaching updates and a Windsurf brainstorm session. Meeting other instructors and networking across the clubs and AS staff was invaluable for our team. The final session on remuneration and work conditions for instructors lead to a gutsy debate about the pros and cons of paying for expertise in clubs.
This summer at ABSC, we intend to run a rage of courses to cater for
Adults who wish to improve their dinghy sailing - using Pacers
Adults who wish to improve their keel boat sailing - using flying fifteens
Children who wish to obtain their tackers certificates
Children who wish to do some regular small boat racing
We are all ears in terms of listening to your wishes on how you'd like to improve your participation and enjoyment in sailing this summer at ABSC. Please tell your friends, and stay tuned for further course information and dates.

Vale Captain Carnage
A rascal and a gentleman
With a heavy heart we must inform our members that we lost Les on the 10th of September. Many of the FF sailors will know Les who came from Lake Learmonth years ago and basically bought the whole FF association with him. Les loved to tinker with everyone’s yachts, whether you liked it or not. Sometimes known as Prof Ratbaggy he was 1 lovely man with a heart of gold, a great sense of humour and who loved to sail.
He will be sadly missed.
Les died unexpectedly in his home in Noosa early on the 10th of September.
Goodbye Les, Carnage, Sir Les, Professor Ratbaggy, Lesley, Roufus, My Best Friend, Professor Sumner Miller... Les had many nick names.
We extend our heartfelt condolences to Verna and Les’s family
