BJ Patino's poem "Apo on the Wall" describes a child's perspective on his father and the hanging picture called "Apo" that hangs around the wall. The poem depicts the reality of living under Martial Law and the Marcos regime. It describes the tragic and traumatic experienced of Filipino's throughout the dictatorship of Ferdinand Marcos Sr. in the Philippines.
We like the poem for it contains the truth of what had happened in the past years ago when Martial Law had occur. It gives us an idea of what kind of relationship the child has with his father. It made us feel like we are there when it happened, like we witnessed what had happened that makes us scared and curious at the same time. It captured our perspective, enlightened us about all the historical facts that are changing our present perspective.
The poem provided us with the rationale for appreciating our historical events. It describe the experienced of Filipinos during Martial Law. It also enlightening the different perspective of millenials and the one who lives during Martial Law. It tells that we should pay greater attention to the past since it could influence our decisions in the futre. We should heal and move on, but let's never forget.
It made us realized that we should gave an appreciation on every little things that happened in our country on the past or even the future, because it still left us a lesson that we can used someday. We should always have the knowledge on our history to enlighten our perspective and to avoid mistakes.
