Class overview
Microeconomics is the study of individual decision makers, both consumers and producers, operating within an economic system of scarce resources. As we will discover, economics can be used to think about nearly everything around us. It is a unique lens through which to view the world, and since the concepts of economics are so ubiquitous, we will frequently use examples from the news, current events, and your everyday life.
This AP Microeconomics course is designed to provide students with a learning experience equivalent to that of a full semester college course in microeconomics, typically titled Principles of Microeconomics.
The course provides instruction in four big topics:
Basic economic concepts
The nature and functions of product markets
Factor markets
Market failure and the role of government
This course teaches how to generate, interpret, label, and analyze graphs, charts, and data to describe and explain economic concepts. Emphasis will be placed on drawing graphs, a great model for representing different economic scenarios. Homework, exams, and activities will explicitly use graphical analysis.
