ApLing corpus is about 5 million words and consists of peer-reviewed research articles written by highly advanced native and nonnative writers and published in reputable journals in applied linguistics. The audience of the written published research articles includes subject specialists, researchers, faculty, and other scholars in the subject area worldwide.
The corpus is designed to be representative of applied linguistics as a field and contains empirical research articles across eight sub-disciplines or areas of research to provide coverage of the major topic areas and epistemologies in applied linguistics.
The eight subcategories of the corpus are: pragmatics, EAP/ESP, CALL, SLA, assessment, corpus linguistics, sociolinguistics, and pronunciation. Articles are sampled from 30 reputable, peer-reviewed journals (3 to 5 journals per sub-discipline). The corpus includes 80 texts per sub-discipline, for a total of 640 texts and 4,744,248 million words.
I thank Dr. Bethany Gray, my PhD advisor, for her support and guidance throughout the development of the ApLing corpus.
