You can contact us directly by email or filling out our contact form. Alternately, if you are person with aphasia, you may request your speech-language pathologist or any professional working with you to contact us on your behalf.
Once we hear from you, we will call you to explain our research, answer your questions and schedule an appointment if you consent to participate.
If you are a person with aphasia, the purpose of the initial appointment is to assess your language abilities and determine eligibility for our various research studies. We will provide a report of your initial assessment. If your profile matches the criteria for our studies (the criteria are different for different studies), you will be scheduled for additional appointments.
If you are a neurologically healthy adult, your participation typically involves a single session (often two sessions for bilinguals).
We are currently conducting our research online. Our appointments with you will occur over video call. You will need a computer/tablet and stable internet connection for the appointments.
For most of our studies, we provide a modest reimbursement for your participation time. Some of our studies are unpaid, and University of Maryland students may use research participation for course credit if they are enrolled in courses that allow such an option.
We are strongly committed to maintaining your privacy. Your names are replaced by "codes" which are used in all our data analysis and reporting . Only a small group of research assistants will have access to your contact information and audio-video recordings, which are stored in password protected servers. We will not sell data under any circumstances, and we are committed to preventing unauthorized disclosure.
