Join the Apex Elementary PTA along with thousands of students nationwide as we lace up our sneakers for the Annual National Walk to School Day! This fantastic event is all about promoting safer, more active transportation for our youth and strengthening our local communities. It's an incredible opportunity for us to come together, share some fresh air, and make memories that will last a lifetime. Let's make this year's Walk to School Day the best one yet!
Event Logistics:
We will have four routes heading to school on Wednesday morning, 10/8. Feel free to join any route. If you are unsure on what route to join, there is plenty of parking at the Salem Village pool, and you can join the Padstone group. There will be leaders at each route guiding students and parents in the right direction and helping cross streets safely.
Here are the groups:
Padstone: Meet at the corner of Padstone and Yately at 8:30 am and walk from Padstone to James (via the walking path).
Minley: Meet at the end of Minley in the cul de sac at 8:35 am and head to school.
Tingen: Meet at the front lawn of the West Haven apartments at 8:35 am and head up Tingen to school.
James: Meet at the corner of James and Goldenview at 8:45 am and head down James to school.

Don't live within walking distance of school? No worries! There is plenty of parking at the Salem Village Clubhouse on the corner of Apex Peakway and Padstone Drive or really anywhere in the Salem Village neighborhood. From there you can join one of the four groups walking up to school.
The ability to navigate the world by walking, biking or rolling safely is an important life skill. Any program that encourages walking and rolling should also incorporate safety education. In order for children to adopt new skills, they need supervised practice time and repeated reinforcement of the key messages. The following walking and biking resources can help.
Bikeology Curriculum and Parent Guide (American Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance, National Highway Traffic Safety Association)
Child Pedestrian Safety Curriculum (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration)
Active Transportation in the Classroom (Active Transportation Alliance)
Bicycle Safety Activity Kit (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration)
Bicycle and Pedestrian Curricula Guide (Safe Routes to School National Partnership)
