The Special Operations Team (SOT) is a specialized APD unit trained to handle high-risk operations, including tactical interventions, barricaded suspects, hostage situations, and critical incidents requiring advanced planning and coordination. SOT officers receive extensive training in weapons, tactics, negotiation, and specialized equipment to safely resolve dangerous situations while minimizing risk to officers and the public.

Officers in HEAT conduct proactive traffic enforcement, DUI checkpoints, high-visibility patrols, and educational outreach to promote roadway safety. The unit’s mission is to prevent crashes, protect lives, and enhance overall traffic safety in the city.
