Ranked among the world's top 100 Universities, the University of Western Australia (UWA) was established in 1911. Economics has been taught at UWA since the University's inception in 1913. Professor Edward Shann was the Founding Professor of Economics and History and the discipline was originally a part of the Faculty of Arts. It grew out to become the Faculty of Economics in 1954, and later transformed into the Faculty of Economics and Commerce in 1961. Since 2007, the discipline of economics UWA Business School.
The largest and oldest university of Western Australia, UWA counts past federal and prime ministers, chief justices of the High Court of Australia, governor of the Reserve Bank of Australia as well as Nobel Prize and Fields Medal recipients among its alumni and staff.
Perth, located on the traditional lands of the Whadjuk Noongar people, is the capital and largest city of Western Australia and the fourth most populous city in Australia and Oceania.
The city sits where the majestic Swan River meets the southwest coast. In addition to its sandy beaches, riverside parks and gardens, Perth is also home to a number of important historic sites, like the Parliament House, the Supreme Court Buildings, and the Perth Mint, and houses the state ballet and opera companies, with its own central precinct, including a theater, a state library, and the Art Gallery of Western Australia. The city has been regularly ranked as one of the world's most liveable cities.
Getting to Perth
Perth is easily accessible by plane from and Perth Airport, which has both international and domestic terminals and is conveniently located about 20 minutes from the centre of Perth and less than half an hour from the University of Western Australia.
Several international airlines fly direct to Perth and both major domestic airlines fly direct from all other Australian capital cities. The airport is well serviced by taxis, ride share, public transport, including a new train service to Perth city centre. Several car hire companies also operate out of the airport.
Getting to UWA Business School - Bus
UWA is easily reached by bus, and several of these have a bus stop directly outside the University Club. Timetables and bus routes can be found at https://www.transperth.wa.gov.au/
The number 6 Purple CAT bus from Elizabeth Quay Bus Station and St George’s Tce in Perth city centre to the UWA University Club runs every 10 minutes from the city from 6.00am until the early evening, and less frequently outside these times. The journey takes about 20 minutes. Bus numbers 96 and 97 also stop at the Business School.
