Descripción del municipio

Atzeneta es un pueblo de unos 1300 habitantes, a los pies de la sierra de Benicadell, en la comarca de la Vall d'Albaida, en el Sur de la provincia de Valencia, que cuenta con acceso directo desde la autovía central valenciana. El municipio se encuentra a unos 400 m sobre el nivel del mar y su término, a caballo entre la Sierra y el llano, presenta una extensión geográfica de unos 6 km² y afronta con los de Albaida en el Oeste; Muro de Alcoi (Alicante) en el Sur; la sierra de El Palomar y Carrícola al este, y El Palomar en el Norte.

La N-340 y la A-7 son el eje de comunicación de Atzeneta d'Albaida con las ciudades de Valencia y Alicante, que distan del municipio unos 90 y 85 kilómetros, respectivamente. Igualmente, la carretera CV-60 conecta Atzeneta con los destinos turísticos valencianos del litoral y con la autopista del Mediterráneo (AP-7).

A la falda de la sierra de Benicadell, Atzeneta d'Albaida debe su nombre a la tribu bereber de los Zenatas, az-Zanata. Conocida entre los pueblos de la comarca como 'El Mirador del Valle'. En Atzeneta unen dos elementos paisajísticos de gran belleza y singularidad: la sierra caliza y el pueblo mismo con sus gentes. Se caracteriza por ser estrecho y largo, además destaca por su artesanía del esparto, piedra y campanas. Además también hay que nombrar las fiestas de San Antonio y los moros. El más importante es el patrimonio que el agua ha ido dejando.

Description of the municipality

Atzeneta is a town of about 1300 inhabitants, located in the shade of the Mountain of Benicadell, in the region of Vall d'Albaida, in the south of the province of Valencia, which has direct access from the central motorway valenciana. The municipality is located about 400 m above sea level and its area, between the Mountain and the Pla, has a geographical area about 6 km and faces those of Albaida to the West; Muro d’Alcoi (Alicante) to the South; the Mountain of El Palomar and Carrícola to the East, and El Palomar to the North.

The N-340 and the A-7 are the axis of communication of Atzeneta d’Albaida with the cities of Valencia and Alicante, that are about 90 and 85 kilometres from the municipality, respectively. The CV-60 road also connects Atzeneta with the Valencian tourist destinations along the coast and with the Mediterranean motorway (AP-7).

Located in the Umbria of the Benicadell mountain range, Atzeneta d’Albaida owes its name to the Berber tribe of the Zenatas, az-Zanata. Known among the peoples of the region as ‘El Mirador de la Vall’. In Atzeneta, two landscape elements of great beauty and uniqueness come together: the limestone mountain range and the village itself with its people. It is characterized by being narrow and long, and also stands out for its craftsmanship of esparto, stone and bells. In addition, it is also necessary to name the festivities of Sant Antoni and the Moors. The most important thing is the heritage that water has left behind.
