I wanted to make a mini documentary about my grandma's journey learning how to crochet and why she still does it. She shares her art with us and expresses how she donates her creations to good causes.
Music to My Light is an immersive motion capture where individuals can move around and dance to four spotlights. To experience the music, individuals first suit up with motion capture trackers that can be put on with wristbands. Throughout the Black Box room, there are a little over 20 motion capture cameras so no matter how you move or where you go within the space, the trackers will be seen. In the middle of the room is the stop/pause area. Once you get out of the pause area and move to a spotlight, music will start playing and will switch when you go to a different spotlight. Individuals can modulate the music with the movement of their hands. The average XYZ is taken into consideration and the music will increase/decrease in rate. There can be another person added into the area and while one person is playing with their sound, the other can play with theirs making an interesting combo of sounds.
This installation explores the relationship between movement and sound opening opportunities for creativity within dance and music. By integrating motion capture technology, participants are immersed in a living artwork. This forms a connection between the human form and the digital realm.
This artwork can step out of the framed artwork by making the art only possible by present people and movement. Immersive art breaks many boundaries of how an individual engages with art. Instead of watching the art, the participants are part of the art. The goal is to invite participants to redefine their relationship with art, technology, and the expressive potential that lies within the interplay of the two.
For seven years I dressed up as Rudolph going out in public dancing and spreading the Christmas joy!
In Spring 2023, I was able to study abroad in Singapore and during my Spring break, I spent a week in Bali going White water rafting, ATV riding, and other adventurous activites. For this project, we needed to work with a 5.1 HDLA speaker system (5 speakers and one sub speaker) to give a 360 experience in the room the video is being watched. I had the voice be the front speaker, the music the front two corner speakers and on a lower volume for the back two speakers and then added sound effects like waves and nature to feel more immersed as the viewer watched.
My goal for this project was to capture the timeless joy of hopscotch, a simple game that has been enjoyed across generations. I aimed to highlight its enduring appeal, showcasing how it continues to bring happiness to people of all ages. Through creative shots and thoughtful editing, I also explored how this classic game can be reimagined and innovated in modern contexts, emphasizing its relevance and adaptability in today’s world.
Criteria: Collaborate to create an ESSAY / POETIC piece. Required to use either spoken, or sung words or intertitles on screen.
I had the opportunity to collaborate with a close friend whom I’ve known for the past two years. As we brainstormed ideas for our project, we discovered more about each other's thought processes and shared concerns. A common theme we both connected with was the fear of losing loved ones and the regret of not fully utilizing the time we have with them—feelings that resonate deeply with us both.
We decided to create this film as an emotional reflection for those who share similar sentiments, expressing the unspoken words we wish we had said or want to say. Our goal was to produce something meaningful that could resonate with others facing these same fears and regrets.
The video is about accepting the growth and change that comes with growing up. We don't want to leave something we are comfortable with, but change is only what makes us stronger.
Using an Insta 360 and a Zoom H3-VR 360, I placed it around the Ice Rink at CU Boulder where I worked, and recorded what a usual shift might look like having the viewer be immersed in the experience with me.
Criteria: Collaborate to explore TWO DISTINCT PLACES using the media of choice. The project has both an image and a sound component.
Explore the particularities of two places, or spaces in a creative collaborative project that brings them together, puts them in dialogue, and meaningfully captures, or suggests the passage of time. What can be revealed through contrast, tension, and juxtaposition?
No Music. No interviews. The emphasis is not on human or animal protagonists. While they may be in the frame, the purpose is to evoke a place, rather than portray a human or non-human person.
When our group initially convened, we were uncertain about the exact comparison we wanted to explore. After brainstorming, we decided to focus on contrasting environments by selecting different locations for our footage. I traveled to Vail, while Audrey filmed around her hometown, and Lori captured her experiences on various bus rides.
Understanding that Lori would be filming in and around public transportation, I ensured that my footage included complementary scenes of car rides and bus stops for continuity. Additionally, knowing Audrey was focusing on construction sites and open fields, I sought to contrast her shots by highlighting the polished architecture and natural landscapes of Vail.
During the editing process, we collaborated for over five hours, carefully refining the transitions between scenes to create a cohesive narrative that conveyed a progression through time. Our goal was to ensure smooth transitions and thematic consistency throughout the video.
Criteria: Explore 10 distinct “things” using the hyperlapse technique. Have 3 seconds of hyperlapse per object/shot, so 30 seconds of hyperlapse in total.
Criteria: Create a self-portrait in the medium you are most passionate about.
