For the expressive booklet, we were asked to pick a song or poem of our choice to make an accordion booklet. I chose to do an Ed Sheeran song with Khalid, "Beautiful People". It is my favorite song at this moment. I like the message it has within the lyrics mainly saying to just be you no matter what is considered a "beautiful person". Our challenge was to not use a lot of coloring, Minimal illustrations, and use just text as much as possible. I consider myself a very illustrative person so this was a challenge for me. We were then told that we could use text to make illustrations if need be. So I used this to my advantage. I used as many asterisks, parentheses, and dashes as I could to represent what I wanted to show. Sometimes I was not able to do that, but I am very proud of how the project came out. My favorite panel would have to be the last two. I made those roses all with parentheses and I feel like I was able to connect the lyrics well with the rose illustrations by having one rose a different color and then ending with that rose having some imperfection with one of its petals on the ground. Others can look at this and might have a different thought and I encourage those to have their own perspective on how the illustrations connect with the lyrics.
For the final project, we were asked to create a food or beverage product that resembles our personality. My first thought was Chai because that is my preferred drink over coffee. But I needed to figure out how can Chai resemble me. I got to thinking and created a mood board that I wanted to be showcased in my product. I wanted it to feel free, happy, and easygoing. Travel is a big part of my life and then I thought of an instant chai packet like the product on the top of the moodboard. While having this in mind, it made me realize that the packets will be small and the box can be small enough to pack for traveling. Growing up, my mom always called me, "Tiny but Mighty" and so I thought that would be a great tagline for the product since it's a tiny product, but it can be mighty and give you some boost for your day.
When I was thinking of the cover of the box, I looked at the picture that had all the signs and I thought that would fit perfectly because I feel like I am always on the go, going everywhere at once and it also gives a travel-like feeling.
When thinking about the name of the product, I chose to do some fun wordplay with my last name, Pak. I then named the product, Pak of Chai. But if it's going to be called "Pak" of Chai, I thought this would be a great way to make more than one "flavor" of chai that sells in one patch. I decided to have each flavor represent a different personality trait I have. The flavors are Chummy (friendly), Skipper (being a leader), Focus (work ethic), and Energy (energetic). Each flavor has its own color, descriptive paragraph, one special ingredient, and a joke. I love to make others laugh and so each box has a joke on top of the opening tab and you would need to buy the product to see the other tab to get the punch line. If I was going to actually market this product, I would have a random joke generator create new jokes every week for the boxes so that when consumers buy the product again, they will be able to get four all-new jokes. Lastly, the ingredients list describes a little more about myself and who I am based on percentages.
I had a great time making this product and was very happy with the results!
