Navigating a data visualisation

During my research visit to the University of Cambridge, I had the opportunity to try a 2D/3D visualisation designed for the energy field. The process of testing it was very emotional and allowed to understand information in an intuitive maner.

The experience motivated me to write the following poem, that describes my thoughts during the testing:

What have I became?

I have visited so many places.

All at a glance and a clic.

I transported myself to any place I wanted to see.

So many journeys…

I have seen the land from the skies as I never did before.

But I can also feel it.

I almost touched it.

Like an sculptor could feel the stone.

Like an Italian chef might feel the dough.

I sort of felt its relief.

I might be the only one who has felt the land in such a way.

Only comparable perhaps to a helicopter driver.

(I understand now…)

But more,

as only that what was relevant was there.

So amazing.

So, what have I became?

Am I now more than a human?

Have I sort of blended with the land?

What do you think?

It was a bit tiring, but rewarding.

Probably, I would do it again.

So amazing…
