AOL email has become a popular email service these days. Though the functioning is smooth, if you access it via a third-party client like Microsoft Outlook or Thunderbird, it may experience trouble in sending or receiving emails. This problem may be due to the AOL IMAP not working or the incorrect configuration of the AOL email account.
To start receiving/sending the AOL emails, you need to fix the IMAP not working issue quickly.
Fixing AOL IMAP problem:
1. Updating the password
If you are using an old password, you need to keep the AOL mail account password up to date. In the recent past, if you have changed the password for your AOL email account, but forgot to update the same on the email client, you will face problem in receiving and sending the emails. Update the IMAP settings on your AOL email account on the client end also. Find your email account or account settings, click on your AOL email account and update your new password.
2. Check the IMAP settings.
If the IMAP/POP settings of the AOL account are misconfigured, you will face trouble sending/receiving emails. Although both IMAP and POP can be used to configure your AOL email account on the client end, it is advisable to use the IMAP as AOL email works best with IMAP. Consider the settings mentioned below to configure your AOL email account on the third-party client.
For IMAP protocol:
· Incoming mail server (POP3) should be imap.aol.com.
· The outgoing mail server (SMTP) should be smtp.aol.com.
· For Port settings enter: IMAP-995-SSL, SMTP-465-SSL
For POP protocol:
· Incoming mail server (POP3) should be pop.aol.com.
· The outgoing mail server (SMTP) should be smtp.aol.com.
· For Port settings enter: POP3-995-SSL, SMTP-465-SSL
3. Updating Email Client Application
Using an older version of the email client will cause trouble in sending and receiving emails to your AOL account. The older version of the client application may not be compatible with the latest AOL settings. Therefore, it is always advisable to update your email client application for smooth functioning.
1. Uninstall and Reinstall the AOL email account
This solution is for iPhone users. If you are unable to send and receive the emails to your AOL account, you can try fixing the problem by uninstalling your AOL email program and then reinstalling it. Follow the below steps to proceed-
· Go the Settings option on your iPhone.
· Scroll down under the Settings option to find the Accounts and Password option.
· Under this section, you will see a list of email accounts that you access on your iPhone. From there, click on the AOL option.
· Clicking the AOL option will take you to the AOL settings section. Click on Delete Account and further on Delete from My iPhone option to delete your AOL account from your iPhone.
· Go back to the main menu and wait for your iPhone to synchronize with the latest settings.
· To add your account again, go back to the settings option and then to Account and Password section.
· Scroll down to Add account option and click on it to re-configure your account.
